@jinkedful economics is subjective; there is no right or wrong it's merely what you place your values, morals and ethics over is what counts. In all honesty, I believe the best way to have true economic freedom is through a nation which allows any economic system (even a gift economy, or one which doesn't even exist already) to be used within that nation, as long as it stays limited to a town or city and isn't forced upon any other settlement.

@Sanguis92 Furthermore, it isn't like the UN is democratic - it is outdated and ineffective. Look at the UNSC for example - it has no African or S. American representation. It has no Muslim country on it. The system was made in 1945, and it needs updating, urgently. And again, to your example of America "going alone" - it was in pursuit of UN resolution 678 (which had no expiry date) so there is no legal basis for intervening in the U.S. + The UN would fall apart without American financing.

Furthermore, the UN already gave permission for invading Iraq in the resolutions I mentioned (& the No Fly Zones which kept millions of Kurds, Marsh-Arabs, and Arab Shiites alive right up until 2003) so the idea that America simply went in without any legal authority is not academically, or practically correct.

@Sanguis92 One must also remember Resolution 678 which gave the UN the right to use military force if Saddam Hussein didn't comply with Resolutions: Resolution 1441 found that Hussein was in material breach and so under 678 military use was indeed authorized - and this is supported by many international scholars. The problem was that Blair wanted a second more explicit resolution for domestic reasons even though the French said privately, "there is no (legal) need for a second." Just saying..

Its sovereignty was already being violated by the No-Fly-Zones imposed by the US military WITH UN sanctions right up until March 2003. So to say that intervention occurred only on 19 March, 2003 is to not understand the history of Iraq vis-a-vis the UN.

The public option is very similar to how Europeans developed their single payers systems. They start with what they have, then the public system kicks ass... and people expand it. Medicare was much less extensive when it began. Social Security was for only a small percentage of workers... today it's for everyone. Let's push hard for it folks.
